Free agent Mario Balotelli has expressed his desire to return to Serie A in a recent interview, suggesting he has changed his ways. ‘Super Mario’ last featured for Adana Demirspor, but is currently without a club, and is keen to make a return to his home country:
“My future? I want to return to Serie A, and that’s why I’m still at home,” Balotelli stated. He revealed that he has received offers from abroad but has slowed down negotiations due to his hope of returning to Italian football.
The 33-year-old striker addressed the misconceptions about him, saying, “I don’t understand what prejudice people have about Balotelli. I’ve had disagreements with some coaches, but everyone argues. In my career, I’ve never ruined a locker room. Today you hear about doping, drugs, betting… I’ve always stayed away from these things. What have I done that’s so serious?”
Balotelli opened up about his personal struggles and growth: “I’ve been through moments where I felt alone, demotivated, unprotected. In those moments, I was fortunate to have my family close. Starting a psychological journey helped me, because I think we all have traumas. This process has changed me a lot, because now I have more self-awareness, and this is a weapon for me, because you know how to control yourself. My regret is not having done it sooner.”
The former Italian international also commented on his potential fit with Serie A teams: “There aren’t teams where I wouldn’t fit in well, I should rather think about which might not be suitable for me.”
