Balotelli Stays at Genoa: “I’m Trying to Keep My Promise”

Mario Balotelli has decided to remain with Genoa despite his struggling stint with the club. The Italian striker's adventure with the Rossoblu has yet to take off, partly due to coach Patrick Vieira's choices, who doesn't see Balotelli as central to his project. However, Super Mario is determined to continue working hard in Liguria, as expressed in a story published on his Instagram profile.

Mario Balotelli has decided to remain with Genoa despite his struggling stint with the club. The Italian striker’s adventure with the Rossoblu has yet to take off, partly due to coach Patrick Vieira’s choices, who doesn’t see Balotelli as central to his project. However, Super Mario is determined to continue working hard in Liguria, as expressed in a story published on his Instagram profile.

In a motivational message captioning a video taken at Genoa’s training centre after a workout, Balotelli wrote: “I’m still trying to keep my promise. I’m a man of my word.” The video concludes with a shot of the Genoa club crest, emphasizing his commitment.

During the final days of the transfer window, there were rumours of a possible move to Monza or Venezia. However, Balotelli ultimately stayed with Genoa. While contract termination might still be an option, he can no longer transfer to another Italian club as he would have needed to be released by Genoa before the February 3rd deadline.

Theoretically, Balotelli could still move to countries where the transfer market remains open, such as Turkey (closes February 11th), United Arab Emirates (February 11th), or Canada and the United States (open from January 31st to April 23rd). However, judging by Balotelli’s recent message, it seems unlikely that he’s considering a departure at this time, despite his limited playing time.

So far this season, Balotelli has played just 56 minutes in Serie A across six appearances for Genoa, without scoring any goals.
