Inter Milan are reportedly considering a move for Robert Lewandowski as the Polish international will not renew his contract with Barcelona.

Will Robert Lewandowski Sign New Barcelona Contract?

Robert Lewandowski’s contract with Barcelona is set to expire in June 2026 and the Spanish side are reportedly unwilling to extend the striker’s deal.

At 37-years-old Lewandowski is undoubtedly in the latter stages of his career and Hansi Flick may be looking for a fresh face in attack next season, especially with Barca’s current side being one of the youngest in Europe.

Despite entering his veteran years, Lewandowski has still been a huge threat in front of goal and has already scored four goals in seven league appearances this season.

The Polish striker joined Barcelona for €45 million in July 2022 after a successful eight-year period with Bayern Munich and has gone on to score 105 goals in 156 appearances for La Blaugrana.

Interestingly, Lewandowski enjoyed his most prolific season for Barcelona in 2024/25, scoring 27 league goals and guiding Barcelona to another La Liga title.

The striker market is one that is rather scarce outside of the elite, with Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe being the standout names.

Other star names include the likes of Romelu Lukaku who has recently linked with a move away from Napoli and Lewandowski continues to be included with these names despite his age.

Barcelona enjoyed a strong opening to their 2025/26 season, avoiding defeat in each of their opening eight matches, but the Spanish side are currently dealing with a tricky patch of form.

Flick’s side were beaten 2-1 by PSG in the Champions League after throwing away a 1-0 lead, before a surprise 4-1 thrashing to Sevilla in La Liga most recently.

This poor form has coincided with the news surrounding Lewandowski’s contract and Inter Milan are reportedly looking to take full advantage in January.

It’s no secret that Barcelona’s financial situation has been precarious in recent years and the club may be looking to get Lewandowski’s €400,000 per week salary off the books.

Are Inter Milan Interested In Robert Lewandowski?

Cristian Chivu has started to find his feet as Inter Milan manager after a difficult start, which saw the Nerazzurri suffer consecutive league defeats – losing to Udinese and Juventus.

Inter have won their last five matches across all competitions and currently sit fourth in Serie A, as they look to reclaim the throne of Napoli this season.

Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram have been consistent members of the Inter front-line for multiple seasons now, with Martinez scoring four goals in has last three appearances.

Despite this recent run of form, Chivu is already looking to bolster his side ahead of next season and are reportedly interested in John Stones, whose contract also expires in June 2026.

The Italian side would be free to negotiate with both Lewandowski and Stones during the January transfer window in a ‘pre-contract agreement’ as players with less than six months on their deal are allowed to do so.

An obvious obstacle in the deal involving Lewandowski is the huge salary that he currently earns with Barcelona and the Polish international has also been linked with a move back to Poland before his career ends.
