Bologna have made a clear decision on Giovanni Fabbian amid growing transfer links with Lazio.

Italian reports say Fabbian is not for sale in January, unless Bologna receive an ‘irresistible’ offer for the midfielder.

The 21-year-old is on the radar of several Serie A clubs, with Lazio and Fiorentina both credited with recent enquiries.

However, Bologna have decided that, barring a huge offer, they will keep hold of the Italy international for now.

What Bologna chiefs have said about Giovanni Fabbian

Giovanni Fabbian has slipped down the pecking order at Bologna, with just 11 starts in all competitions this season.

Although he has made 19 appearances overall, he has clocked up just over 900 minutes of game time so far this term.

But despite his reduced minutes this season, he remains popular among Bologna’s coaches and hierarchy.

“Giovanni has earned this niche,” Vincenzo Italiano recently told reporters.

“He scored against Sassuolo and deserves to play because he has great pace, substance, intensity, and the ability to fill the penalty area.

“He, like Pobega, are the types of midfielders I like.”

Meanwhile, Bologna director Marco Di Vaio went further, playing down January transfer speculation and hailing the “important” player.

“These are transfer rumours that are making the rounds because they’re predicting Fabbian’s exit,” he said. “Which is absolutely not true.

“Fabbian is a very important player for us, and as a result, they’re already finding replacements.

“Fazzini, Miretti, and many other players are excellent, strong Italian players who could have the right profile for our club.

“But we have Fabbian, who is an important player for us.”

Why Lazio and Fiorentina are being linked with Giovanni Fabbian

Lazio’s interest has been revived because they are exploring midfield options.

In addition, their pursuit of Ferencvaros talent Alex Toth has become complicated.

As a result, they may turn back to Fabbian if they miss out on Toth, with the club assessing alternatives quickly.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina are looking to bolster their ranks after a horror first half of the season.

Fabbian’s age, quality and uncertain future at Bologna has led to speculation, but it looks as though Bologna are in no rush to let him go.

Elsewhere, Norway international defender Eivind Helland is Bologna-bound after they agreed a €8.5m deal with SK Brann.

With Jhon Lucumi’s Bologna future uncertain amid Manchester City interest, the Rossoblu have taken decisive action.
