Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori is set to become Arsenal’s newest signing after weeks of rumours and negotiations. The Italian centre-back is scheduled to depart for London on the morning of Saturday, where he will undergo medical examinations before signing his contract in the United States, where the English club is currently on tour.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Bologna for the defender’s purchase, with a transfer fee of €50 million. Of this amount, 50% of the capital gain will go to Basel, Calafiori’s former club.
Bologna had initially paid €4 million for Calafiori, meaning they will make a capital gain of €46 million on the transfer. As a result, the Swiss team will earn €23 million from the deal.
Furthermore, Basel owes 40% of any future resale to Roma, Calafiori’s youth club. This means Roma will receive €9.2 million from this transfer.
This move marks a significant step in Calafiori’s career, as he transitions from Serie A to the Premier League. The young Italian defender has shown impressive development during his time at Bologna, attracting the attention of one of England’s top clubs.
