Cesc Fabregas Delivers Rousing Speech to his €100m Worth of Como Transfers: “This Is the Energy”

Start

Cesc Fabregas is quickly proving himself as a coach capable of building something special in Italy.

After guiding Como to a 10th-place finish in Serie A last season, the Spaniard is raising the bar for their second season in the top flight.

Fabregas Inspires Como Squad With Post-Match Speech

Following a convincing 3-0 pre-season win over Ajax, Fabregas delivered a heartfelt message to his players out on the pitch:

“Good job. Good game. Very, very good. We’re seeing a lot of things, guys, so keep going, because everyone will be important. This is the energy… if we play like this, believe me, we will have a lot of fun.

“It’s not easy because we need to spend a lot of energy, but [there are] very good signs. If everyone is involved with the same mindset, we will have fun.”

That moment captured on camera sums up the unity and excitement building around Como. With over €100 million spent on transfers this summer, Fabregas now leads one of the most ambitious squads in Serie A, with a clear eye toward pushing for Europe in 2025/26.

Como’s €100m Summer: The Biggest Spenders in Serie A

Fabregas’ words came after overseeing a pre-season victory with a side that has cost over €100 million to assemble – more than any other club in Serie A this summer.

Backed by the billionaire Hartono family of Indonesia, Como have splashed out on nine signings already, including:

  • Jesus Rodriguez (€28m, Real Betis)

  • Martin Baturina (€25m, Dinamo Zagreb)

  • Nicolas Kuhn (€19m, Celtic)

  • Jayden Addai (€14m, AZ Alkmaar)

  • Maximo Perrone (€13m, Manchester City)
  • Alex Valle (€6m, Barcelona)

These additions come on top of last season’s loanees returning, and new targets are still being pursued. Como are currently finalizing a deal for Alvaro Morata from Milan, while pushing for a center-back after missing out on both Cristhian Mosquera and Malick Thiaw.

Fabregas’ Como Project

Fabregas’ rise at Como has been fast and hands-on. The World Cup winner became a shareholder in 2022 and took over youth coaching duties before stepping in as interim first-team boss. He was confirmed as permanent head coach in July 2024.

This summer technically marks his first full pre-season in charge – and with backing from the ownership, he’s now building a team in his image: young, technical, and ambitious.

After beating Lille, Al Ahli, and Ajax, Como’s pre-season schedule continues with matches against Real Betis and Barcelona, where Fabregas began his career.

While most mid-table sides in Italy look to consolidate, Como’s spending signals a club with much loftier ambitions – possibly even breaking into the top four.

Their transfer strategy has focused on youth with resale value, competitive salaries, and regular playing time – all in the scenic setting of Lake Como. The challenge now is to make that investment count, and it’s clear Fabregas is central to that.
