Christoper Nkunku Admits He ‘Didn’t Have To Think For A Second’ About Joining Milan

Christopher Nkunku has confessed that he ‘didn’t have to think for a second‘ when he heard that Milan were interested in him.

The Rossoneri completed an initial €37million move for the Frenchman on August 30. He penned a five-year deal at the San Siro after quitting English Premier League side Chelsea.

Nkunku is one of ten new signings made by head coach Max Allegri this summer. The likes of Luka Modric, Ardon Jashari, Adrien Rabiot and Koni De Winter also joined.

Christopher Nkunku On Milan Move

Having completed his surprising move to Milan, Christopher Nkunku explained to the media that he was very keen to join the Rossoneri.

He may also be joined by a former team-mate at the San Siro. Legendary defender Thiago Silva could be re-signing for Milan in the January transfer window. Someone of which Nkunku spoke to prior to his move.

“The first time I heard about Milan’s interest was when I spoke to the director of sport. I didn’t think about it too much, it was all perfect for me to come here.

“When my agent told me about Milan’s interest, I didn’t have to think for a second.”

Nkunku has been drafted into Max Allegri’s side to offer more pace and flair in attack. Something of which current Milan hero Rafael Leao is renowned for.

The versatile French forward believes there are similarities in his game to that of Leao. Nkunku also praised the Portuguese international and believes they will play well together.

“I do have similar characteristics to Rafa, he is a great player, but I think we can do well together. We all have to put our qualities at the disposal of the team. I can adapt to the coach and do what he asks.

“I like to play as a trequartista, then it depends on the system and how it is interpreted. The coach will decide, I can’t wait to start playing. I feel good, I’m training with the team and will be ready for the first game.”

Why Did Christopher Nkunku Quit Chelsea?

After joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window of 2023, many Blues supporters believed the forward would be a success at Stamford Bridge.

However, injuries hindered Nkunku’s progress and he failed to reach the heights expected of him during his two years in London.

“I think it was all perfect when I arrived, but then I got hurt and was out for quite a few months. I was so eager to return and when I did, there was a new muscular problem.

“The second season I felt good, but the coach made other decisions. I learned a lot at Chelsea. I want to be competitive and win trophies.”

Nkunku made 62 appearances for the English side and scored 18 goals whilst chipping in with five assists. Naturally, he’ll be hoping to record higher numbers in Italy and put his injury problems behind him.
