How Much Did Inter Get Fined For Lautaro Martinez’s Booking Against Monterrey?

Start

The Club World Cup fines have been revealed after Inter’s star man Lautaro Martinez got booked against Monterrey on MD1.

Cristian Chivu’s first outing as Nerazzurri head coach ended in disappointment as the Serie A runners-up were held 1-1 by the Mexicans in Los Angeles.

Veteran defender Sergio Ramos opened the scoring for the Rayados with a fine header after 25 minutes. Martinez then got his name on the scoresheet before the interval and then saw yellow in second-half injury time.

Club World Cup Fines

The Club World Cup fines have certainly raised a few eyebrows among soccer supporters who are following FIFA’s revamped tournament.

According to GhanaWeb, players who receive a booking will see their club punished with a whopping $12,000 (€10,425) penalty.

With that in mind, it’s just as well that Italian CWC representatives Inter and Juventus lead the way for most expensive kit sponsors in Serie A.

Furthermore, a player who is the recipient of an indirect red card (two yellows in the same match) will be stung with an $18,000 (€15,637) fine.

Those who are unfortunate to see a straight red will see their club fork out an eye-watering $24,000 (€20,850). Whether the club pays the fine directly or docks the player’s pay packet remains to be seen.

Club World Cup Suspensions Explained

The Club World Cup suspensions work similarly to other UEFA and FIFA competitions. If a player is shown a yellow card on MD1 and MD2, they will subsequently serve a one-match suspension on MD3.

That of course, is in reference to the CWC group stages whereby all participants will play three matches. Any player holding a single booking will then see it wiped if they feature in the quarter-final.

However, if like Lautaro Martinez, he already has one booking. Should Inter progress to the last eight with the Argentinian not receiving a further yellow, a booking in that game would result him missing the potential semi-final.

Red cards are somewhat more straight forward. Any player sent off at the CWC will miss the following game. Furthermore, they may endure harsher sanctions such as an extended ban and/or a fine.

What Games Could Lautaro Martinez Potentially Miss For Inter?

As it stands, Lautaro Martinez could miss the final Group E game against River Plate. That is only if he receives another booking against Urawa Reds on MD2.

If the Argentine forward was to avoid a yellow against the Japanese side but did get booked again against the Millonarios, he would miss the last 16 clash. Should Inter get there.

According to the best offshore sportsbooks, the Nerazzurri are still one of the tournament favorites. However, a suspension to Martinez will likely affect their chances of winning the Club World Cup.
