Under the slogan “Sinigaglia must go on,” the club has unveiled plans for a comprehensive stadium renovation that aims to transform the venue into a multi-purpose asset for both fans and citizens. Calciomercato report that the project, presented by Como’s mayor and club president Mirwan Suwarso, goes beyond just a sports facility, encompassing urban regeneration without compromising the original architecture of the Sinigaglia.
The new design, developed by the renowned international architectural firm Populous, envisions a small masterpiece that will include pedestrian zones, parking areas, exhibition spaces, health centers, food markets, and other community-focused structures. Populous, famous for their work on Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, brings world-class expertise to the project.
Taking inspiration from the successful redevelopment of Atalanta’s Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, the renovation will proceed in phases or “blocks.” The timeline aims for completion by August-September 2028, with plans to increase the stadium’s capacity to over 15,000 seats.
Como’s mayor, Alessandro Rapinese, emphasized the importance of location, stating, “The stadium must remain where it was born, and it will be even more beautiful.” President Suwarso echoed this sentiment, highlighting the club’s commitment to community engagement: “We have Como in Serie A, and the next step is to think about the home of this team. We asked citizens how they would like to see their new stadium. We gathered feedback from them because we are interested in working with people to find the best solution for those who live in the city every day.”
