Lazio Vs Milan The Standout Coppa Italia Fixture As Round Of 16 Draw Sees The Big Guns Enter The Competition

The Coppa Italia fixtures for the Round of 16 have been determined following the conclusion of Thursday’s action. 

Genoa beat Empoli 3-1 thanks to goals from Morten Frendup, Alessandro Marcandalli and Jeff Ekhator at the Luigi Ferraris.

Torino also booked the spot after a narrow 1-0 victory over 10-man Pisa. Cesare Casadei scored the only goal of the game at the Olimpico di Torino.

Now the Coppa Italia fixtures for the Round of 16 have been decided, the standout clash will pit Lazio against Milan – who finished as runners-up in 2024-25.

Many believe the Coppa Italia favors Serie A sides owing to its unfair format. However, supporters of the Biancocelesti and Rossoneri will perhaps argue differently after being paired together.

With that said, Venezia are the only second tier side to reach the third round so there is some truth in that. They will face Inter at the San Siro.

Who Are The 2024-25 Coppa Italia Champions?

The reigning Coppa Italia champions are Bologna. The Rossoblu edged past Milan 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in May. Dan Ndoye scored the only goal of the game to give the Emilians their first major trophy in over 50 years.

Interestingly, the last major honor Bologna won before that was in fact the Coppa Italia. They were victorious in 1973-74 and in 1969-70.

Their first success came in 1938 with the most recent being in 2024. In joint second both tied on nine wins is Inter and Roma. The latter’s arch rivals Lazio fill the last podium spot.

Overall, a total of 16 clubs have won the Coppa Italia but only one has come from Serie B. In 1962, Napoli became the first side to do so after beating SPAL 2-1.
