While Sandro Tonali remains Juventus’ primary midfield target, the club are preparing to give up hope this summer, amid Newcastle’s unwillingness to sell. The latest Davide Frattesi transfer news indicates that Juve may look closer to home to find an alternative.
Is Sandro Tonali Leaving Newcastle?
Despite admitting that he misses the comforts of his homeland, Italy international Sandro Tonali has seemingly a ruled out a move away from Newcastle this summer.
With the Magpies now in a comfortable financial position and under no threat of penalisation, a penny-pinching Juventus are unlikely to be in a position to satisfy the demands of a transfer involving Tonali.
They would also have to convince the man himself, who revealed earlier this month that he has “found people who care” on Tyneside. He continued by saying: “I don’t want to break any of the bonds I’ve built.
“I’ve had a lot of thoughts every day, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”
After returning from a 10-month gambling ban at the beginning of the season, the 25-year-old has continued to warm to the Newcastle faithful, and it appears he will not be leaving this summer.
Offshore sportsbooks concur, with Tonali favored to stay next season by odds-setters.
Davide Frattesi Transfer News Uncovers Interest From Juventus
With Tonali publicly stating his desire to stay put in the Premier League, at least for now, Juventus are wasting no time in exploring the rest of their midfield wishlist.
David Frattesi is chief among them, according to reports in Italy. The Inter Milan midfielder nearly found himself donning the Biaconeri of Juventus, before instead find a home in Milan after successive loans away from Sassuolo.
Frattesi made an initial loan move permanent at the beginning of the season, and the crowning moment of a solid campaign came after netting the winner against Barcelona in May, to send Inter to the Champions League final.
Even after his last-gasp heroics in the last four, Frattesi was an unused substitute in the final, despite Inter clearly in need of a change as they found themselves chasing a two-goal deficit at half-time.
He is said to have been at loggerheads with now-former manager Simone Inzaghi over his lack of involvement, and reports suggested that Frattesi would leave Inter if Inzaghi stayed.
Although it is unclear what role he will now play under new boss Cristian Chivu, there is no hiding from the fact that just 24% of Frattesi’s minutes last season came after being named in the starting line-up.
With game time at a premium, Juventus’ interest could come with the promise of a more prominent role, particularly with the Old Lady’s midfield notably thin on the ground.
His current Inter contract runs through to 2028, so striking a deal for the $45 million-rated midfielder may prove sticky for Juve.
