Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij was caught off guard during a recent press conference ahead of the Netherlands’ match against Bosnia. When asked about rumors circulating in Italy suggesting this would be his last season with Inter, de Vrij responded with surprise:
“What have they said? I’m genuinely curious, I don’t know anything about it. I’m enjoying myself immensely at Inter. I have an option to extend my contract for another season. This choice is up to the club, and I would like to explore this option.”
The Dutch center-back’s situation at Inter is complex. He has only started in one Serie A match against Monza and in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade this season. His performances have not always been impeccable, which has led to speculation about his future.
De Vrij’s current contract is set to expire on June 30, 2025, coinciding with that of his defensive colleague and positional rival, Francesco Acerbi. Inter holds a unilateral option for a one-year extension for both players. However, the club may need to choose between the two defenders.
