Barcelona Cool Interest in Denzel Dumfries as Inter Brace for Transfer Deadline

Start

Barcelona have opted not to pursue Inter full-back Denzel Dumfries this summer, despite attempts by his agent, Jorge Mendes, to engineer a move before the expiry of the player’s €25 million release clause.

Dumfries Transfer News: Barcelona Cool Interest

The future of Denzel Dumfries remains unresolved as Inter edges closer to the July 31 deadline tied to the player’s release clause.

The Dutch international has been offered to Barcelona by his agent, Jorge Mendes, but the Catalan club is not showing concrete interest.

Dumfries, 28, had reportedly been identified earlier in the summer as a potential right-back reinforcement for Barcelona.

However, the Blaugrana are instead prioritizing contract renewal talks with Jules Kounde, who is expected to remain their starter in that position under Hansi Flick.

Despite Dumfries’ strong performances in Serie A and Europe, including a memorable Champions League campaign, Barcelona have deemed the €25m fee too steep given their current financial situation.

Does Inter Want To Sell Dumfries?

From Inter’s perspective, there’s no immediate pressure to sell the Dutchman. Dumfries is under contract until 2028 and remains an important part of Simone Inzaghi’s plans.

However, the €25 million release clause in his contract gives foreign clubs the ability to trigger a move — but only until the end of July.

Should no deal materialize by then, Inter regain full control over Dumfries’ future and could opt to keep him or renegotiate under their own terms.

The 29-year-old has racked up 179 appearances for Inter since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, contributing 22 goals and 26 assists. He also extended his deal last November.

Why Barcelona Doesn’t Need Dumfries

Barcelona’s decision to pull back stems largely from their confidence in Jules Kounde. The Frenchman is already in contract renewal talks, with the club aiming to secure his services until at least 2029.

Head coach Hansi Flick sees Kounde as a key figure on the right side of defense, while Eric Garcia is expected to provide cover. With limited funds and other priorities across the squad, it’s not in Barcelona’s plans to invest €25 million in a backup.

There had been some whispers of Manchester City interest in Kounde, but Barcelona remain firm in their stance to keep him and focus their summer efforts elsewhere.

Is Dumfries Staying at Inter?

Dumfries’ immediate future now hinges on whether another club steps forward before July 31. With Barcelona stepping aside and no other strong links emerging, the expectation is that the Dutchman will remain at Inter for at least another season.

Given his consistent output and versatility as a wingback, Inter is happy to keep him unless an attractive offer arrives.

With the window still open, and Dumfries’ name previously mentioned in connection with Premier League sides, particularly Manchester United, the situation could yet change in the coming weeks.
