Diego Coppola On AC Milan’s Shortlist As Former Verona Star Seeks More Game Time

Diego Coppola is the latest player to emerge on AC Milan’s wishlist as the Rossoneri aims to increase their defensive options. 

Coppola has endured a difficult time at English Premier League outfit Brighton having moved from Verona in the summer transfer window.

The Azzurri international has made just two domestic starts and has eight appearances to his name overall. Hence why a move away from the AMEX has been highly mooted.

Although Fiorentina’s interest in Diego Coppola remains high, AC Milan is ready to compete for his signature. Head coach Max Allegri is prioritizing new defenders this month.

The Rossoneri are very much in the title race and Allegri wants to strengthen his backline to compete with their rivals at the top of the table.

Coppola has plenty of Serie A experience despite being 22. He spent four years with Verona and made over 85 appearances between 2022-2025.

The Italian was held in high regard owing to his mature and composed performances at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium. Although his move to Brighton hasn’t worked out so far, the Diavolo are keen to give Coppola a chance.

Will Diego Coppola Quit Brighton?

A number of factors will determine whether Diego Coppola quits Brighton this month. Fabian Hurzeler still holds the center-back in high regard but his preferred options are Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Coppola has shown glimpses of what he is capable of but ultimately, he hasn’t entertained many minutes on the pitch in the first-half of the season.

Therefore, a loan move away is perhaps the most logical outcome. Coppola himself recently said he needs more action to have a chance of making Italy’s World Cup squad. Should they qualify.

A permanent move isn’t likely so from AC Milan’s perspective, a temporary move to the end of the season would be the easiest and most cost effective option.

However, if the Seagulls were to entertain a number of injuries across their backline, they will surely block any potential exit.

With AC Milan targeting Radu Dragusin as well as other center-backs, the Serie A giants are keeping their options very much open in January.

Sporting director Igli Tare is working hard behind the scenes and naturally, Diego Coppola is a strong consideration. Nonetheless, Milan have shortlisted a number of stars just in case Coppola isn’t allowed to move on loan.

Elsewhere, Manchester City’s Nathan Ake is also being discussed. Similar to Coppola – the Dutchman wants more minutes with the World Cup five months away.

The latter is also on Inter Milan’s shortlist alongside Juventus. However, his Sassuolo exit is more likely in the summer.
