Dionisi: ‘The season started today for Sassuolo’

Sassuolo coach Alessio Dionisi believe the season has finally started for the Neroverdi, following their 3-1 win over Hellas Verona. Sassuolo have struggled to find form in the first two weeks of the Serie A season, but the return of talismanic captain Domenico Berardi has finally got the team working again, according to Dionisi:

“For us the championship started today. We already had a good performance in the first two, but small clubs are more influenced by the market and this didn’t help us because we didn’t talk about anything else.

“Today the team was smart, we paid for the start but it’s normal. We have a young team with kids in their first year of Serie A, we could have done even better but that’s fine. The best thing is the group, we are a group of good guys but in the first two weeks we weren’t intelligent. So we can pay for inexperience but with certain players who have recovered we are stronger.

“Berardi ? Domenico is unique, we missed him a lot, he gives a boost to the whole team, he has quality in his head as well as in his feet. Also I’m happy for Castillejo , this team needs experienced players and he will raise the level. My celebration encompassed the start of the championship, I’ve heard a lot and too much talk, I don’t want comparisons, we can confirm ourselves. I’m not interested in talking about past years.”
