According to the latest Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer news, Inter could hold the key to the Azzurri international goalkeeper moving to Manchester United.
Donnarumma didn’t feature in the Ligue 1 opener or the UEFA Super Cup final last week. He is set to leave PSG this summer after four years at the Parc des Princes.
The 26-year-old was part of Luis Enrique’s roster who went on to win the treble last season. During his time with the Parisians, Donnarumma featured 161 times in all competitions and kept 56 clean sheets.
However, his refusal to pen new terms and the subsequent fallout with the club has taken the gloss off what was a successful time in the French capital.
Donnarumma confessed last week that: “Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened.”
Gianluigi Donnarumma Transfer News
With former employers Milan interested in re-signing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, arch rivals Inter could put a spanner in the works.
The Nerazzurri are weighing up the possibility of drafting ex shot-stopper Andre Onana back to the San Siro. If that happened, it would free up vital funds for Man United to acquire Donnarumma.
However, interest in the Azzurri ‘keeper is extremely fierce. Manchester City have been strongly linked with the 26-year-old as a replacement for Ederson.
Meanwhile, the likes of Galatasaray, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern and Saudi Pro League clubs are all keeping a close eye on developments.
Will Inter Re-Sign Andre Onana?
On August 18, FootItalia sources confirmed that Inter were interested in signing Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson. The Nerazzurri are still keen but they are also considering launching a bid for Andre Onana.
Head coach Cristian Chivu is prioritizing drafting a new ‘keeper and believes Onana would be a good fit if a deal for Ederson can’t be struck. The Brazilian has been strongly linked with a move to Turkey.
Under the stewardship of Simone Inzaghi, Onana flourished and played a vital role in Inter’s run to the Champions League final in 2023.
Such was his form that Manchester United came calling. However, the Cameroonian has had a tough time at Old Trafford and has been guilty of a number of high profile mistakes.
Despite being fit to feature against Arsenal on August 17, he was dropped from the Red Devils roster. Now, a return to Inter is very much on the cards.
Andre Onana Stats
Throughout his professional club soccer career, Andre Onana has played for Jong Ajax, Ajax, Inter and Manchester United. He has featured a total of 401 times and conceded 449 goals.
In terms of clean sheets, Onana has 134 to his name. His stats are relatively impressive but his two seasons at United have been largely underwhelming.
Hence why the Red Devils are keen to replace him with Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Cameroon international failed to live up to the lofty heights of his one season at Inter in 2022-23.
Cristian Chivu believes a deal can be struck with Ruben Amorim’s side to bring him back to Italy. An offer in the region of €25million would likely do the trick which would pave the way for the Premier League giants to acquire Donnarumma.
