Paulo Dybala’s future at Roma has been secured as the Argentine forward’s automatic contract renewal clause has been activated. The extension, which will keep Dybala at the club until June 30, 2026, was triggered during Roma’s recent match against AZ Alkmaar, where Dybala reached the required number of appearances and minutes played to activate the clause.

The renewal clause was based on Dybala playing at least 50% of Roma’s matches for a minimum of 45 minutes, including stoppage time, over a three-year period. With Roma potentially playing 169 matches across all competitions during this timeframe if they reach the finals of both the Coppa Italia and Europa League, Dybala has already featured in 101 games, comfortably surpassing the threshold for the automatic extension.

This new contract will see Dybala’s salary increase to €8 million per season, making him the third-highest paid player in Serie A. Only Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic (€10.5 million) and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez (€9 million) will earn more than the Roma star in the Italian top flight.

The automatic renewal provides Roma with a sense of security and removes any immediate pressure to negotiate a new deal. The club can now approach any future contract discussions, potentially extending Dybala’s stay until 2027 or 2028, without the urgency of an impending free agency.

Dybala’s importance to Roma is evident in his impressive statistics. This season alone, he has made 24 appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists in the league. Over his entire Roma career, spanning 101 matches, Dybala has contributed an impressive 39 goals and 21 assists, cementing his status as a key player for the Giallorossi.
