Edoardo Bove Edges Closer To Return As Italian Considers Other European Options
Edoardo Bove could be set for a move away from Serie A as the Italian nears a long-awaited return.

Diego Tavan, agent of Edoardo Bove, is hoping to see the Italian make a return soon and is considering options outside of Serie A.
Edoardo Bove Edges Closer To Return
After over a year away from the sport, Edoardo Bove is now nearing a return as the Italian continues his recovery following the disastrous incident on December 1st, 2024.
The Italian suddenly collapsed during Inter vs Fiorentina in Serie A, as Bove’s heart came to a brief stop and was rushed to hospital for tests.
Due to this cardiac arrest, Bove underwent heart surgery and required an implanted cardiac defibrillator to help keep the heart’s regular beat if the issue arises again.
The 23-year-old was on loan to Fiorentina for the 2024/25 campaign, but is now back with his parent club Roma and Bove’s agent has revealed that the Italian is back on an individual training schedule.
Diego Tavan said: “Edoardo is so eager to get back and play. He is respecting the schedule, but we are optimistic. Seeing him back on the pitch is a dream for many Italians.
“Everyone cares about him, regardless of club affiliation. He is training and we hope to soon have him back in action.
Returning to the sport in 2026 would be a huge moment for Bove, at both club level and for the Italian national team.
Gennaro Gattuso’s men enter a World Cup playoff in March, as the FIGC recently revealed the venue for the clash against Northern Ireland.
Competing at next year’s tournament is an unlikely objective for Bove at this moment in time, but the Italian is focusing on a return to club competition.
Edoardo Bove To Consider Clubs Outside Of Serie A
Due to Bove’s implanted cardiac defibrillator, he is unable to compete in Serie A as the Italian rules do not allow players to compete with the implant.
Christian Eriksen had to leave Inter Milan in 2021 after his surgery required an ICD, however, Bove’s situation is slightly different.
The 23-year-old can have his ICD removed if it is approved by doctors and would allow Bove to return to Serie A.
Bove’s place in Roma’s squad is in a precarious position, as Gian Piero Gasperini is looking to bring in a midfielder during the January window.
A host of star names have been linked, with Roma showing interest in Manuel Ugarte and Diego Tavan has hinted towards a move outside of Italy.
Diego Tavan said: “We cannot say yet if it will be in Italy or abroad, but the desire to return is very strong.”
An exact date for Bove’s return has not been confirmed, but the recent comments from the Italian’s agent suggest that he could return for the 2026/27 campaign.
