Emerson Palmieri Could Join An Exclusive Club With Controversial Switch Mooted

Start

The latest Emerson Palmieri transfer news has revealed that Lazio are keeping track of the West Ham defender.

Emerson has been a regular for the English Premier League side over the last three seasons. However, his contract only has 12 months to run but the Hammers do have the option to extend by a further year.

The Italian international turns 31 in August and new Biancocelesti head coach Maurizio Sarri is reportedly interested in signing him this summer.

Emerson Palmieri Transfer News

According to Alfredo Pedulla, writing for La Laziali, Emerson is being closely monitored by the Serie A side. Furthermore, Lazio have targeted three defenders who could replace Nuno Tavares.

The Portuguese left-back has only just joined on a permanent basis but Sarri has already shortlisted a trio other full-backs who could potentially fill the void if he moves on.

Interestingly, Emerson formally represented arch rivals Roma between 2015-2018. He made a total of 47 appearances and scored twice during his time with the Giallorossi.

The news perhaps won’t resonate too well with Lazio supporters. Nonetheless, the Italy international and Euro 2020 winner would make a solid addition to Sarri’s new-look roster.

Who Is The Only Player To Win The UCL, UEL And UECL?

Emerson Palmieri has enjoyed much success during his pro soccer player career. To date, Emerson is the only player to win the UCL, UEL and UECL.

The latter he won with current employers West Ham in 2023. The Hammers got the better of Serie A side Fiorentina 2-1 in Prague.

Emerson was also part of Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea roster who won the UEL in 2019. On that occasion, the Blues thrashed London rivals Arsenal 4-1 in Baku. He assisted Olivier Giroud for the opening goal.

Most notably, Emerson won the UCL with the Blues in 2021. He didn’t feature in the 1-0 victory over Man City as he was an unused substitute.

Which Players Have Represented Both Lazio And Roma?

With Emerson being mooted for a transfer to Lazio, it would mean he joins an exclusive club of players to have represented both the Biancocelesti and arch rivals Roma.

As it stands, 18 professional soccer players hold that honor. The most notable to do so are Spanish winger Pedro, legendary goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Luca Pellegrini and Luigi Di Biagio also featured for both Serie A and Rome giants. The best offshore sportsbooks have seen the price shortened on Emerson to follow suit this summer.
