With Davide Nicola heading towards Cagliari, Empoli have reached an agreement with Roberto D’Aversa on a two-year deal. The former Lecce coach was very close to joining Cesena in recent days, however, the lure of Serie A proved too strong to resist.

In the previous season, Empoli managed to secure their Serie A survival in the final minutes of the last game. Niang’s late goal against Roma in stoppage time was crucial in their fight against relegation.

Ultimately, it was Frosinone who suffered relegation, despite having two out of three results in their favour to avoid the drop. They lost their decisive home match against Udinese.

Sky Sport Italia detail how the appointment of D’Aversa is seen as a significant move for Empoli as they aim to build on their narrow escape from relegation last season. The experienced coach, known for his tactical acumen and ability to motivate players, will be tasked with guiding the team to a more comfortable mid-table position in the upcoming campaign.
