Borussia Dortmund Walk Away From Negotiations For Fabio Silva, Clearing the Way For Roma Deal

Roma’s pursuit of Wolves striker Fabio Silva has taken another positive turn this week, as fellow admirers Borussia Dortmund walk away from the bidding table.

Wolves striker Fabio Silva is in high demand this summer, as he returns to the Premier League club off the back of a stellar campaign in LaLiga last term.

The Portuguese international has struggled to find his feet across a succession of loan deals — four to be exact — but he excelled in front of goal at Las Palmas.

For the first time in a league campaign, Silva reached double figures for goals after netting 10, along with three assists.

Although his stock may have dropped off dramatically after labouring to just six goals across the two campaigns prior to his loan at Las Palmas, Silva still represents plenty of value at 23 -years-old.

With his natural goalscoring ability on show throughout last season, a host of potential suitors have expressed an interest.

Silva’s contract at Wolves expires next summer, and with the club unwilling to renew, their preference is to recoup some of the $47 million they paid five years ago.

It had appeared a dead-cert that Silva would be heading to Borussia Dortmund, with the German club expressing the most interest.

Dortmund this week lodged their third failed bid for Silva, with Wolves reportedly increasing their asking price amid interest from other bidders. In other words, they believe they can drive up their asking price as Dortmund compete in a bidding war.

It does, however, appear that Dortmund are unwilling to ‘overpay’ and are now prepared to walk away from negotiations.

Roma Interested in Fabio Silva

Whether Wolves have overstretched themselves in terms of the fee remains to be seen, but with Dortmund out of the picture, there are teams waiting to pounce.

Not least Roma, who have reportedly already struck a five-year deal in principle worth $3 million per-season.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma are among the favorites for Serie A next season, and it is clear the new manager is attempting to remedy their relative lack of goals.

10th-placed Como were the only side in Serie A’s top half to score less goals than the Giallorossi last season.

A potential deal for Silva, coupled with Evan Ferguson’s arrival on loan would mean Roma have three deadly strikers on their roster; it also includes 2023-24 LaLiga top scorer Artem Dovbyk.

Both Wolves and Silva are eager for a quick resolution, with the player eager to leave as soon as possible having rarely been shown faith by the club.

Wolves are holding out for a fee closer to $25 million, although Roma’s interest in Jadon Sancho means they are also earmarking considerable capital in order to bring in a winger.

There also remains a possibility that the aforementioned Artem Dovbyk could depart Rome this summer, with Leeds United still pushing hard for the Ukrainian. That could free up the necessary cash for Roma to bring in both Silva and Sancho.
