In an interview with Spanish newspaper “As,” Cesc Fabregas, the newly appointed head coach of Como, discussed his first season as a manager and his ambitions. At 37 years old, Fabregas is embarking on his first solo coaching role in a top-tier league without any fear.
The multi-award-winning champion is ready to inspire Como fans: “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. I have so much hunger and passion,” the former Spanish international told As.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work with the team for seven months. I have very clear ideas and strongly believe in my players. We will work hard,” Fabregas stated. Young but unbridled, the former Arsenal star has already thoroughly studied Serie A: “Football in Italy is growing, and expectations are high. I need to make them understand that the mentality must also change. In Serie B, you lose the ball, and maybe it hits the post. In Serie A, you concede a goal. The level is higher.”
Although new to management, Como’s new coach has identified his role models: “My philosophy is inspired by Wenger and Guardiola, but my reference is Xabi Alonso. He’s doing an incredible job.”
