Fiorentina continue to be one of the most active clubs in the winter transfer window, with their latest target being Ismael Kone, the Canadian midfielder currently playing for Marseille. The 22-year-old, born in Ivory Coast but representing Canada internationally, has caught the attention of several European clubs, including Valencia and Rennes.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports how Kone, who joined Marseille in the summer of 2024 for an estimated €12 million from Watford FC, has found himself in high demand despite limited playing time in France. Fiorentina’s interest comes as part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen their squad during this transfer period.

However, Marseille are reluctant to let Kone go without securing a replacement first. The French club is exploring options, with one potential replacement being Fagioli from Juventus. This stance has created a complex situation for interested parties, as any deal for Kone hinges on Marseille’s ability to find a suitable substitute.

The transfer saga surrounding Kone has intensified in the final days of the window. Valencia appears to be in pole position, reportedly having agreed to a loan deal without an option to buy. Meanwhile, Rennes, currently struggling in 16th place in Ligue 1, has also entered negotiations with Marseille for the midfielder.

Fiorentina’s pursuit of Kone is further complicated by their own transfer restrictions. The Italian club is reportedly facing limitations on additional loans from abroad, making any potential deal contingent on other transfer activities, such as the possible sale of Richardson to Stuttgart.
