Fiorentina’s sporting director Daniele Pradé has addressed the ongoing legal situation surrounding their new signing Albert Gudmundsson. The Icelandic forward is currently involved in a legal process in his home country, facing accusations of “sexual misconduct” stemming from an incident in the summer of 2023.

Calciomercato report that Gudmundsson has been in Reykjavik this week for the first hearing of the trial. The case, which was initially closed in February, was reopened following an appeal by the complainant’s lawyers. Pradé took the opportunity to explain the agreements in place with Genoa regarding this situation.

The legal process is expected to unfold over the coming months, with a verdict anticipated in October, potential appeals in November, and a final decision by June next year at the latest. Throughout this period, Fiorentina has ensured Gudmundsson is supported by a trainer and physiotherapist from the club.

Addressing concerns about the potential impact on the club, Pradé stated: “We are 100% protected regarding Gudmundsson. We know that he risks little or nothing, but the operation is a loan with an obligation or option to buy. If the sentence comes out before June 15th next year, we already know how to proceed. If it comes out after, we have an excellent relationship with Genoa and will manage the operation, possibly revising the numbers.”

Pradé further elaborated on the legal aspects: “The trial is under a completely different jurisdiction. We have had a team of lawyers study all the documents. The player is very calm, and we hope he will provide the quality we are looking for.”
