Sven-Goran Eriksson, the renowned Swedish football manager who led Lazio to their last Serie A title in 2000, has passed away at the age of 76. Eriksson’s family announced that he died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones after battling pancreatic cancer.
Eriksson won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana in both 1998 and 2000, the European Cup Winners’ Cup (199), and the Serie A title in 2000 – only the second time that the Roman club had won the Italian championship in their history.
Throughout his illustrious career, Eriksson managed several high-profile European clubs, including Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina and Sampdoria.
In early 2024, Eriksson revealed his terminal cancer diagnosis, stating he had “at best a year to live.” Despite his illness, he fulfilled a lifelong dream in March by leading out the Liverpool Legends team for a charity match against Ajax at Anfield, describing it as an “absolutely beautiful” and “huge memory” in his life.
