Milan have made their first reinforcement in the January transfer window by recalling Matteo Gabbia to the club. The 24-year-old was loaned out to Villarreal in the summer, but the Rossnoeri’s defensive crisis has forced the club to rethink their plans.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Milan and Villarreal have finalised all the details for the return Gabbia, stating that the Rossoneri have ‘accelerated their plans to bring the player back into Stefano Pioli’s squad.’

The operation, which has already been set in the past few days, has now been defined in all its details, so much so that Gabbia is expected in Italy in the next few days. Tomorrow – Tuesday 2 January, the day of the official reopening of the transfer window – Milan will deposit the defender’s contract with the Lega, and will soon undergo the usual medical tests.

Gabbia will probably be at Stefano Pioli’s disposal from Wednesday 3 January, when he will start training with the Rossoneri, and could be available int he squad for the match against Empoli on January 7th.
