Napoli Face Salary Hurdle in Pursuit of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus

Napoli’s pursuit of Gabriel Jesus has reached an impasse, with the loan structure the club wanted ruled out because the Arsenal forward has only one year remaining on his contract.

Sporting director Giovanni Manna has made Jesus Napoli’s priority target as the club seeks to strengthen its attack following Romelu Lukaku’s departure. Jesus is reportedly open to considering a move to Serie A, but contractual and financial obstacles remain substantial.

Napoli had hoped to limit its risk through a loan deal, but Arsenal do not accept a loan for a player whose contract is close to expiry.

However, the potential move remains at an early stage. A report from beIN Sports said Jesus’s agent, Giovanni Branchini, stated that he had not discussed the player with Napoli. That position underlines the gap between reported interest and formal negotiations.

Contract Status Rules Out Napoli’s Preferred Loan Plan

The proposed loan has become the central problem in the discussion. Jesus has one year left on his Arsenal contract, and Arsenal are not prepared to let him leave on loan in those circumstances. Napoli’s preferred route is therefore unavailable.

A permanent transfer would present a separate financial challenge. Jesus’s reported net income of €9 million a year is beyond Napoli’s existing salary framework.

The club would need to persuade the Brazil forward to accept a significant reduction in pay or agree a flexible payment structure with the English club.
