Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is open to returning to Italy, his agent has revealed.

Recent comments from the goalkeeper’s agent, Enzo Raiola, have placed numerous clubs on red alert.

Donnarumma moved to Premier League heavyweights City from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and quickly cemented his spot as Pep Guardiola’s undisputed No 1, despite the arrival of James Trafford.

Since joining, the 26-year-old has started all 19 top-flight matches and pulled off a string of eye-catching saves.

However, Donnarumma’s future is in doubt. As reported by FootItalia last month, he could look to move on depending on whether Pep Guardiola chooses to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, his representative has added fuel to the fire, confirming the door is open for a switch back to his homeland.

Raiola told Rai: “Now at Manchester City, he’s finding peace with the team and the environment. He really likes the project. He’s also starting to understand the Premier League.

“The other day he jokingly told me that playing there for five or six years is an adventure, but it was a joke… But if the opportunity arises to return to Italy, we’ll seize it.”

His comments come after Donnarumma fielded offers from multiple Serie A clubs. He ultimately settled on City as his next destination, but Inter Milan and Juventus have continued to be tipped to swoop.

How Much Gianluigi Donnarumma Could Cost

Regardless, they stand little to no chance of signing him anytime soon, according to Calciomercato.

Donnarumma completed his move to City for €35million, signing a five-year contract until June 2030. This contract alone will see him net approximately €80m, with his salary starting at €15m net per season.

This figure will eventually reach €18m in the final year of his deal. The club also hold the option to extend his terms by a further 12 months, which would again see his salary bumped up to €19m for the additional season.

In addition, there are a number of lucrative bonuses on offer.

Indeed, the stopper could earn €3m per year, €2m of which are tied to success in the Premier League and the Champions League. The remaining €1m is linked to his number of clean sheets per season.

The exorbitant amounts across the board mean that Donnarumma’s future will almost certainly be in England for the foreseeable future.

Suitors in Italy, though, remain on stand-by, ready to pounce if the right opportunity presents itself.
