USMNT Star Gio Reyna Edges Closer To Serie A Switch

Start

The latest Gio Reyna transfer news has revealed that the USMNT star has agreed on personal terms with Parma.

Reyna looks set to leave Borussia Dortmund after six seasons in Germany. Once considered as the future of American soccer, the 22-year-old’s career has stagnated somewhat.

Persistent injuries have been Reyna’s major downfall. Since the beginning of 2022-23, Reyna has missed 231 days of action which equated to 39 game absences for club and country.

Last season, the attacking midfielder only managed 25 appearances in all competitions. Reyna scored twice and registered just one assist. Now, he’ll be looking to rejuvenate his career in Italy.

Gio Reyna Transfer News

On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Gio Reyna has already agreed personal terms on a move to Parma.

The USMNT star looks set to follow in Christian Pulisic’s footsteps by aiming to get his career back on track in Serie A. Reyna would become just the second signing at the Ennio Tardini Stadium this summer.

Christian Ordonez joined in June and there have also been rumors that Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira and Millwall’s Mihailo Ivanovic could follow suit.

However, those whispers have gone quiet in recent weeks. Therefore, getting Reyna signed off is the main priority for new head coach Carlos Cuesta.

How Much Will Gio Reyna Cost Parma?

Gio Reyna once had a market value of €46million (TransferMarkt). This figure was determined after he signed a new five-year contract extension with Borussia Dortmund in 2020.

Back then, Reyna was tipped for soccer stardom but his series of injuries and lack of playing time when fit has seen his market value plummet to just €7m.

With just 12 months to go on his current deal, it’s believed that Parma can sign Reyna for €6m this window. That in itself offers very little financial risk if things don’t work out.

It is reported that Reyna would sign a three-year contract at the Ennio Tardini. The deal would also include a release clause of €24m.

MLS teams had also been circling for Reyna and would have likely offered the same figure. However, Reyna isn’t interested in a return to the States at this stage of his career.

Will Gio Reyna Revive His Career In Italy Like Christian Pulisic?

Similar to friend and American team-mate Christian Pulisic, USMNT star Gio Reyna really hit the ground running at Borussia Dortmund when he broke into the senior roster in 2020.

Reyna has since declined somewhat which many consider is what happened with Pulisic when he joined Chelsea from Dortmund in 2019. ‘Captain America‘ has since gone on to star for Milan after quitting the Blues in 2023.

Over the last two seasons, Pulisic has scored a total of 32 goals from 100 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri. Something of which Reyna would be keen to emulate.

Naturally, it’s too early to determine whether the 22-year-old could match the dizzy heights of his compatriot. Nonetheless, Parma is owned by American businessman Kyle Krause who will be keen to support Reyna as much as possible.

Not only that, Krause is building for the future and with Carlos Cuesta in charge, the Crusaders boast the youngest coach in European soccer.

The safest online betting sites all favor Cuesta’s side to have a strong 2025-26 campaign and with Reyna in their ranks, a top-half finish is more than achievable.
