FIGC President Gabriele Gravina has once against voiced his opposition to a prospective European Super League. The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Justice will decide tomorrow whether Uefa and Fifa acted against competition law by blocking the formation of the European Super League in 2021 and sanctioning the clubs involved. A verdict against Uefa could pave the way for A22, promoters of the European Super League, to once again propose the introduction of the competition.
Speaking earlier today at a post-council press conference, Gravina reiterated his feelings on the competition:
“We’ll wait. We are the only federation that has taken a very clear position. We are totally against it, there is a federal rule whereby whoever joins that competition leaves the federal football system.
“We cannot prevent membership, but the choice, if it happens, must be very clear. It is unthinkable to have two or three championships within a series of organisations.
“We are already fighting internally over the dates available for the championship, you can imagine what would happen if we added another championship. I have to safeguard the brand of Italian football and you have to know what you are up against.”
