Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has denied that Juventus tried to hire him in 2019 and defended Max Allegri and Roberto De Zerbi. The Spaniard was reportedly close to joining Juve in 2019, with some elements of the Italian press at the time stating that the Bianconeri were pushing for his arrival. Speaking on the sidelines of the event ‘Dialogues on Talent with Pep Guardiola’, the 52-year-old tactician denied that he was close to joining the Old Lady, and also took a moment to defend he respective tactics of both Allegri and De Zerbi:
“All coaches want to win. Let’s take Allegri and De Zerbi as an example… Do you think one wants to win and the other doesn’t? Allegri thinks he will win in his way and De Zerbi thinks he will win in his way.
“De Zerbi doesn’t work because he seeks aesthetics, he wants to win. All coaches want to win, no one just thinks about looking good. In my life I’ve never met a coach or even a player who doesn’t want to win.”
“Did Juve seek me out? No, they have never sought me out, but I like Italy very much.”
