Despite weeks of speculation and interest from Galatasaray, Hakan Calhanoglu is expected to stay at Inter this summer.
The Turkish international has returned to training with the Nerazzurri and is set to join the pre-season camp under Cristian Chivu next week.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Calhanoglu remains focused on Inter and wants to move past the disappointment of the Club World Cup defeat.
The midfielder had briefly considered a switch back to Turkey, but Galatasaray never followed up with a formal offer.
Calhanoglu Galatasaray Transfer Update
While Galatasaray made their admiration for Calhanoglu known, it became clear that their top priority remains Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Their pursuit of the Turkey captain was reportedly more about patriotism than a concrete transfer push.
Inter, on the other hand, had no intention of letting one of their most important players go cheaply. President Beppe Marotta confirmed as much during the latest Serie A League Assembly, stating:
“No, he’s fully our player, so he’ll be back as soon as he’s called up.”
The club is believed to value Calhanoglu at around €35 million, while Galatasaray has yet to offer more than €10 million – hardly enough to open serious negotiations.
Will Calhanoglu Retire at Inter?
At 31, Calhanoglu appears to be thinking long-term. Reports suggest the former AC Milan man now sees himself finishing his career at Inter, with the support of the club’s management and fans.
There had been whispers of tension following Inter’s defeat to Fluminense at the FIFA Club World Cup, especially between Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez.
However, sources indicate the pair are set to meet in the coming days to smooth things over ahead of the new campaign.
Inter Transfer News
In terms of incomings, Inter are considering a move for €35 million Bayern Munich star Joao Paulinha.
Marotta also confirmed the club’s interest in Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, although he admitted the €40 million valuation is steep.
Meanwhile, Valentin Carboni is heading to Genoa on loan, and Sebastiano Esposito is being targeted by Fiorentina and Cagliari for a permanent transfer.
With high expectations and Champions League ambitions, Inter are taking a cautious but optimistic approach this summer. “We are Inter,” Marotta said. “We must always look to the future with great optimism.”
