Inter have announced that Francesco Acerbi is suffering from a hamstring injury, with reports claiming he could be out for weeks.
Injury could rule Inter star Francesco Acerbi out until January
Acerbi had to come off in Tuesday night’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool, with Hakan Calhanoglu also making way.
Inter provided an update on the Italy international’s condition on Thursday afternoon.
“Francesco Acerbi underwent medical and instrumental tests this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano,” they wrote in a statement.
“The tests revealed a strain in the biceps femoris of his right thigh.”
Sky Sport Italia have reported that Acerbi will miss a month of action due to the injury.
The outlet claimed the 37-year-old is set to be unavailable for Inter’s next five games.
Acerbi stands to miss the upcoming trip to Genoa, the Supercoppa Italiana clash with Bologna, the trip to Atalanta, the home league meeting with Bologna and the trip to Parma.
Sky also reported that Inter hope to have Acerbi back for the Serie A meeting with Napoli on January 11.
However, this is “far from certain”. For the time being, the Nerazzurri will have to plan without him in the fold.
Inter will be desperate to get back to winning ways after falling to a hugely controversial defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
Dominik Szoboszlai scored a “scandalous” late penalty after Alessandro Bastoni tugged back Florian Wirtz.
Replays showed the contact was soft, and referee Felix Zwayer was subsequently branded “incompetent”.
Hakan Calhanoglu injury latest
On a brighter note, the reports regarding Calhanoglu’s fitness are more reassuring.
The Turkish midfielder has not undergone an MRI scan, according to reports.
Calhanoglu is said to be feeling better already and will be evaluated day by day.
Although he is unlikely to feature against Genoa, he reportedly hopes to return for the Italian Super Cup .
The Nerazzurri will face Bologna in their semi-final on December 19, with the potential final scheduled for December 22.
