Inter Milan face another setback with a muscle injury to their Dutch defender, Stefan de Vrij. Following injuries to Marko Arnautovic, and new signings Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski, de Vrij is the latest to be sidelined. The 32-year-old former Lazio player experienced muscle discomfort in his left thigh during the closing moments of a friendly match against Al-Ittihad in Monza, which Inter lost 2-0.

De Vrij will miss the final pre-season friendly against Chelsea in London on Sunday. He is also expected to be unavailable for the first two Serie A matches against Genoa and Lecce. However, he aims to return for the home game against Atalanta at the end of August.

Inter released a statement confirming that de Vrij underwent clinical and instrumental examinations at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. The tests revealed a muscle strain in the biceps femoris of his left thigh. His condition will be reassessed next week.
