Inter Sporting Director, Piero Ausilio, has confirmed that Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries wishes to remain with the club. Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, Ausilio addressed the futures of both Dumfries and head coach Simone Inzaghi.

Dumfries at a Crossroads

Dumfries, 28, is entering the final year of his contract with Inter, which expires next June. This situation puts the club in a position where they must either secure an extension or consider selling him this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Interest in Dumfries has been significant, particularly from the Premier League, with Aston Villa and Manchester United reportedly keen on acquiring his services. Despite this, Ausilio revealed that Dumfries has expressed a clear desire to stay at Inter:

“I spoke with Dumfries recently,” Ausilio stated. “Beyond his contract situation, which we’ll attend to with his representatives in the next few days, Dumfries has expressed the desire to stay.”

Ausilio acknowledged that while Dumfries is committed to Inter, the club remains open to considering other opportunities if they arise. “Then, if other opportunities arrive that he’d like to take into consideration, we’ll deal with those things in the right moment,” he added. “But as of today, Dumfries is an Inter player, and he confirmed to me that he wants to stay.”

Potential Replacements and Strategic Moves

In light of Dumfries’ situation, Inter has been linked with Bologna’s Dan Ndoye as a possible replacement. However, Ausilio’s comments suggest that, for now, the focus remains on retaining their current squad. “At the moment, we’re not thinking about anything as far as the right flank other than our own players,” he noted.

Continuity with Simone Inzaghi

Ausilio also discussed the importance of continuity under head coach Simone Inzaghi, who is about to start his fourth season with Inter. “The idea that we keep going on the path we started out on a few years ago is crucial,” Ausilio explained. “This past season was fantastic. We want to be competitive right from the off, and to try and confirm our status as champions.”

Reflecting on the upcoming season, Ausilio expressed confidence in the team’s current strength while remaining vigilant about potential transfer opportunities. “The team is already strong the way it is,” he stated. “If there are any transfer opportunities, we’ll be there.”
