Inter have four-man shortlist as Sommer backup

Inter are actively working on strengthening their goalkeeping department for the upcoming season, as they aim to find a suitable backup for newly-signed Yann Sommer. The Nerazzurri have identified Josep Martinez of Genoa as their primary target, but the negotiations are proving to be challenging.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Genoa have slapped a €18 million price tag on the 26-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, a valuation that Inter find steep. In a meeting held on Wednesday, June 12th, the two clubs initiated discussions regarding a potential transfer, with Genoa making their demands clear.

While Martinez remains Inter’s preferred choice, as per the technical staff led by Simone Inzaghi, the club is also exploring alternative options. Among the other goalkeepers on their radar are Filip Jorgensen of Villarreal, Athletico Paranaense keeper Bento, and Udinese’s Maduke Okoye, with the latter also attracting interest from Torino.

In a separate meeting at the Inter headquarters, the club’s management held talks with Botines, the agent representing Jorgensen, indicating their interest in the Villarreal shot-stopper. The Nerazzurri are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of a reliable backup for Sommer, as they aim to bolster their goalkeeping department ahead of the new campaign.
