With transfer speculation put to bed for the moment as the Club World Cup peers over the horizon, Cristian Chivu must now turn his attention to the squad he has at his disposal. The latest Inter Milan injury news suggests four players could miss the tournament opener.
Inter Milan Injury News
Both of Inter’s summer arrivals so far, Luis Henrique and Petar Sucic, are expected to be thrust in at the deep end in the early stages of the Club World Cup this month.
Sucic in particular could be handed a starting berth on his debut for the Nerazzurri, with midfield options alarmingly thin on the ground.
Teenage sensation Francesco Pio Esposito was included in the Club World Cup squad after a stellar season on loan in Serie B with Spezia. He was ruled out of the U21 Euros this summer with a knee injury, but has still made the trip with Inter to the USA.
While he would have played a limited role at the tournament, Inter Milan injury news this week reveals three other key absentees for the start of the Club World Cup.
The most notable of which is Hakan Calhanoglu, who suffered an injury setback in last month’s Champions League final defeat.
So too did Yann Bisseck, who lasted just a few minutes after replacing Benjamin Pavard early in the second half. He continues to struggle with a thigh problem after skipping Germany’s Nations League slate, and the Club World Cup opener will likely come too soon.
Elsewhere, Piotr Zielinski — who more than likely would have provided cover for the injured Calhanoglu — sustained a calf injury ahead of Poland’s fixture with Finland.
New signing Petar Sucic, who has been likened to compatriot Luka Modric by Croatian press — is therefore likely to start his Inter Milan career with a starring role.
