Three Inter Stars In Line To Make Club World Cup Debut Against River Plate

Start

The latest Inter Milan injury update has revealed that three stars are in line to make their Club World Cup debut against River Plate on Wednesday.

New head coach Cristian Chivu has had to navigate the opening two games without a number of players. However, the 2010 Nerazzurri treble winner has received a timely boost ahead of the final group fixture.

So far in the US, Chivu has overseen a 1-1 draw with Mexican side Monterrey. Last time out against Urawa Red Diamonds, a 92nd minute Valentin Carboni strike ensured a 2-1 win against the Japanese outfit.

Inter Milan Injury Update

In the build up to MD1, five Inter players trained separately ahead of the Monterrey clash. Three of those players are now primed to feature against River Plate.

Davide Frattesi missed the opening games due to fatigue. Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries also missed out due to injury but the trio are now fit for the clash against the Argentine giants.

However, forward Marcus Thuram, Polish international Piotr Zielinski, Yann Bisseck and Benjamin Pavard are all expected to miss out once again.

All four of the above should be fit enough to return for the knockout stages. If Inter gets there. Frattesi, Calhanoglu and Dumfries are all likely to play some part on Wednesday.

What Do Inter Milan Need To Qualify?

As it stands, Inter currently occupies 2nd spot in the Group E rankings on four points. They are only behind River Plate on goal difference. Therefore, a victory on Thursday will guarantee the Champions League runners-up 1st.

A draw against the Argentine’s could also suffice. Earning a single point assuming Monterrey don’t thrash Urawa Red Diamonds will be enough for Cristian Chivu’s charges.

If the Mexicans fail to beat Urawa, it won’t matter what the outcome is between the Nerazzurri and Los Millonarios. Both sides will progress to the last 16.

Who Could Inter Milan Play In The Last 16?

On the brink of qualification, many will be wondering who Inter could play in the last 16. The best betting apps are also favoring the Nerazzurri to progress this week.

If Cristian Chivu’s side top Group E, the Serie A giants will play the Group F runners-up. Which at the moment is Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

BVB plays bottom side Ulsan and three points there could potentially see them top the rankings after three games. If that does happen, Brazilian outfit Fluminense could face Inter.

There is also the possibility that Chivu’s men could play Mamelodi Sundowns. They face off against Fluminense on MD3 so a lot will hinge on the end result, plus Inter’s score, as to who will face who in the knockout stages.
