Former Inter Milan Star Believes Denzel Dumfries Will Leave San Siro In 2026 After Dutchman Considered Summer Move

Former Inter Milan star, Andy van der Meyde, believes Denzel Dumfries will leave the San Siro in 2026 after the Dutchman was linked with an exit during the summer.

Will Denzel Dumfries Leave Inter Milan?

Denzel Dumfries was heavily linked with a move away from Inter during the 2025 summer transfer window, as the Dutch international attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

However, the full-back decided to stay in Milan for the 2025/26 season and is already a regular starter under Inter’s new head coach, Cristian Chivu.

During his time in Italy, Dumfries has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Europe, making 182 appearances for the Nerazzurri and contributing to 49 goals (23G + 26A).

Last season, the 29-year-old stole the show in Inter’s semi-final triumph over Barcelona, contributing to five goals across both legs and Dumfries is expected to feature in Inter’s starting lineup against Ajax on Matchday One of the 2025/26 Champions League.

Despite being a pivotal member of Cristian Chivu’s side, Dumfries is still being linked with a move away from Inter and this has been amplified by another man that has represented both Inter and the Netherlands.

Andy van der Meyde made 54 appearances for the Nerazzurri, while also earning 17 caps for the Netherlands and revealed that Dumfries may look for a ‘new choice’ after the 2025/26 season.

Andy van der Meyde said: “At Inter, he has a nearly guaranteed spot, and that will also help him with the national team. He could have gone elsewhere, but he risked ending up on the bench.

“Now Denzel can remain a key player, and after 2026, maybe, he’ll make a new choice. He’s a strategic and unique player: he scores more than a striker, provides assists, and is fundamental for both Inter and the Netherlands.”

Are Any Clubs Interested In Denzel Dumfries?

Although Dumfries is closing in on his 30th birthday, he has shown no signs of slowing down and would be an improvement for almost every side around the world.

So it came as no surprise when Barcelona showed heavy interest in the Dutchman during the summer window, as Hansi Flick pushed for a deal with Inter Milan.

Inter managed to convince Dumfries to stay in Italy, while also keeping a hold of Hakan Calhanoglu after rumors of a move to Galatasaray circulated for several months.

However, the Netherlands international will become available once again during the January window and is now being monitored by Premier League sides.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing the Inter Milan star, as Pep Guardiola looks to reclaim the Premier League title after missing out on the trophy last season.

The Cityzens will face stiff competition from their fiercest rivals, with Manchester United also keeping tabs on the 29-year-old as the season goes on.

Dumfries signed a new deal with the Nerazzurri in November 2024 and is under contract until June 2028, meaning Inter will not be forced into sale in January or the summer window.
