Inter Milan Stall Hakan Calhanoglu Contract Extension As Turkish Star Suffers Fresh Injury Concern

Hakan Calhanoglu is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the Turkish star was forced off against Napoli with a muscular injury.
Hakan Calhanoglu Injury Update
The Inter Milan midfielder was forced off during the Nerazzurri’s 2-2 stalemate with Napoli on January 11th, as Calhanoglu pulled up with a muscular issue in the 87th minute.
Cristian Chivu’s side took the lead twice during the match, thanks to a superb strike from Federico Dimarco and a Calhanoglu penalty, but Scott McTomiany’s brace secured a point for the Partenopei.
Calhanoglu’s spot-kick left Antonio Conte furious and the Napoli manager received a red card before the Inter star took his overall tally in Serie A to seven.
The Turkish international showed his discomfort immediately after making a tackle in his own 18-yard box and was swiftly replaced by Petar Sucic.
Further medical tests are expected to take place on January 12th, but the early indications suggest that Calhanoglu has strained his calf muscle as opposed to a more severe issue.
Inter have some difficult fixtures in January, including a duo of Champions League clashes against Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.
The Nerazzurri will be hoping to include Calhanoglu for these European encounters and the Turkish star is still in discussions over a new contract in Milan.

Calhanoglu’s contract with Inter Milan is set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season and there has been no agreement over an extended deal as of yet.
The 31-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Italy during the recent summer transfer window, after attracting interest from Turkey.
Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are both looking to bring Calhanoglu back to his home nation in 2026, which has forced Inter into a decision over the Turkish star’s contract.
Inter are also concerned over Luis Henrique’s future as the Brazilian is another Nerazzurri star that has attracted interest from Turkey – but Calhanoglu’s situation is a higher priority.
According to reports, Inter and Calhanoglu are still struggling to find an agreement over wages, while the Nerazzurri are also cautious over the Turkish midfielder’s injury concerns.
