Inter Milan Already Know Their First Two Summer Signings Despite Quiet January
Cristian Chivu is set to refresh his squad at the end of the season.
Inter Milan have already lined up their first two summer signings, according to the latest transfer news.
Inter Milan Transfer News: Manuel Akanji To Join Permanently
Despite the club ending the January transfer window without any new first-team additions, having missed out on both Ivan Perisic and Moussa Diaby, they have drawn up plans for the end of the season.
According to Calciomercato, Manuel Akanji will likely be their first acquisition.
The centre-back joined on loan from Manchester City in the summer and has excelled at the heart of their backline.
Unsurprisingly, CEO Beppe Marotta is ready to activate the €15million purchase clause included in the deal. Akanji was already set to join permanently, with an obligation to be triggered if Inter win the Serie A title.
Akanji did not make a single appearance for City this season and had attracted interest from AC Milan and Galatasaray, but ultimately opted for Inter to play in the Champions League.
His switch has certainly paid off, and Akanji wants his Inter stay to be extended for the long-term.
“I don’t know what will happen in the summer,” said Akanji. “It’s not only up to me, we’ll see what happens at the end of the year. But I’m very happy here and I hope this continues. We’ll see.”
The Swiss international has made 29 appearances this season, playing a total of 2,337 minutes. Underlining his importance in Italy, he has started all but one of Inter’s 23 Serie A matches to date.
Aleksandar Stankovic Set For San Siro Return
Inter are also expected to activate their buyback clause for Aleksandar Stankovic, despite selling him last summer.
Club Brugge snapped up the talented 20-year-old for just €10m and will make a significant profit 12 months later. Indeed, Inter will have to pay around €23m to secure his return to the San Siro.
However, the club are more than happy to stump up the fee in a bid to stave off big-name competition.
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto recently claimed that Manchester United have scouted Stankovic, while other Premier League sides, including Tottenham, have also watched him in person.
For now, Inter hold all of the cards and are remaining calm. They also have the option to pay €25m to sign him in July 2027, despite the risk of him moving elsewhere.
Stankovic has been in stellar form for Club Brugge this season, making 36 appearances and scoring seven goals.
