Inter Complete Djed Spence Raid As Davide Frattesi Heads To Lazio

Inter’s reported Djed Spence agreement and Davide Frattesi’s midfield role show how Chivu is managing depth within a 3-5-2.

Inter’s summer business took shape on two fronts today, with one departure and one arrival now both close to being finalised.

Davide Frattesi is heading for Lazio, while Djed Spence is set to complete a move to Inter from Tottenham Hotspur.

Both deals carry personal terms already agreed, leaving only formalities before either is officially confirmed.

Frattesi Set For Lazio Exit On Loan Deal

Frattesi’s Inter career is coming to an end after a verbal agreement was reached with Lazio.

The structure is a €1m loan with a €14m buy option, which becomes mandatory once certain conditions are met, taking the total package to around €15m.

Inter will keep a cut of any future sale, reported at 50 per cent, protecting some of the value if Frattesi’s stock rises again in Rome.

That represents a steep discount on the €30m valuation Inter had held onto for most of the summer, itself already reduced from the €40m they wanted twelve months ago.

Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Juventus had all shown interest earlier in the window, but none moved to meet Inter’s asking price.

Why Frattesi Fell Down Chivu’s Pecking Order

Frattesi’s departure reflects where he sits in Cristian Chivu’s midfield picture rather than any single incident.

He had been part of the rotation alongside Piotr Zielinski and Petar Sucic, behind a central trio built around Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Sucic’s arrival pushed him further down that list, and regular Serie A football became harder to find at San Siro.

Lazio now offer exactly that, with the added appeal for Inter of a resale clause if things go well.

Spence Move Frees Funds For New Inter Targets

Frattesi’s exit also clears space, both financially and on the squad list, for Inter to push elsewhere.

That timing lines up with Spence’s arrival from Tottenham, agreed at a fixed fee of €31.5m, rising to around €34m to €35m with bonuses.

The England international has signed off on personal terms for a five-year contract through to 2031, and is expected to travel for a medical shortly.

Inter see him as the long-term successor to Denzel Dumfries at right wing-back, following the Dutchman’s move to Real Madrid, with the added option of covering for Federico Dimarco on the opposite side.

How Spence Fits Chivu’s Wing-Back System

Spence’s arrival matters as much for fit as for fee.

Chivu has kept Inter’s 3-5-2 in place, but sharpened it with quicker vertical transitions and higher starting positions for the wing-backs.

That system leans heavily on wide players who can support transitions and connect the back line with midfield, which is exactly the profile Spence offers after a breakout World Cup with England.

He arrives having struggled for regular minutes under Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham, but a fresh role in Serie A gives him a clearer path to first-team football.

Inter’s Squad Reshaped As Window Nears Its Final Stretch

Taken together, the two deals mark a clear reshaping of Inter’s squad rather than a coincidence of timing.

One exit resolves a player who had run out of room in midfield. One arrival strengthens a position Chivu has prioritised all summer.

Alessandro Bastoni, Francesco Acerbi and Yann Bisseck remain the core of Inter’s back line, with Spence set to add depth and versatility on the right.

With the window entering its closing weeks, both pieces of business suggest Inter are moving quickly to finish their squad rebuild on their own terms.
