September is set to be a decisive month for the future of San Siro, as discussions about its redevelopment continue. Alessandro Antonello, the corporate CEO of Inter, spoke about the iconic stadium’s prospects during an interview at the Monza Grand Prix. He highlighted the importance of modernizing infrastructure, especially with Euro 2032 on the horizon.
Antonello stated, “also in view of Euro 2032, we hope that Italy will have new infrastructure. San Siro? Let’s see if it can be unblocked, at the same time let’s move forward on Rozzano. The important thing is to pursue the goal of a modern stadium.”
A new meeting is scheduled for mid-month between the City of Milan and the two clubs, Inter and AC Milan. The parties will review the renovation proposal put forward by WeBuild, which has gained more traction after initial skepticism.
If the clubs decide to proceed with the San Siro renovation, they would abandon their respective alternative projects. Inter has been exploring options in Rozzano, while AC Milan has already purchased land in San Donato Milanese.
Should the clubs focus on renovating the Meazza, it could mean missing out on hosting the 2027 Champions League final in Milan. The stadium is expected to be ready by 2032, in time to host the joint Italy-Turkey European Championship.
