Inter Milan face a significant midfield challenge as they prepare to kick off their 2025 Serie A campaign against Venezia on Sunday. While the flanks will feature the familiar duo of Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco, the heart of Inter’s formation will showcase an unprecedented combination.

Barring any last-minute changes, manager Simone Inzaghi is set to field a midfield trio of Barella, Asllani, and Zielinski. Although these players have shared the pitch before, this will mark their first time starting a match together. This unexpected lineup is a direct result of recent injury setbacks in the squad.

The team’s midfield woes began with Calhanoglu’s injury and have now been compounded by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s sudden unavailability. During Friday’s training session, the Armenian midfielder experienced discomfort in his adductor region, effectively ruling him out of Sunday’s match.

Mkhitaryan’s condition remains a concern for the club. If he continues to feel discomfort on Saturday, the medical staff may opt for further diagnostic tests to assess the extent of the issue.
