Inter Milan continued their winning streak with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Torino, marking their third consecutive win in Serie A. However, head coach Simone Inzaghi believes there is still room for improvement despite the positive results.
Inzaghi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance but highlighted concerns about defensive lapses. “We’ve won three league matches in a row, and the players have deservedly won all three games in a week after the derby, despite the challenges,” he said. However, he emphasized the need for improvement, stating, “We’re paying a very high price for every mistake. We must work hard without relaxing.”
The coach pointed out that the match should not have ended 3-2, given Inter’s one-man advantage and lead. He praised Torino’s resilience but also noted his team’s imprecisions and the opposing goalkeeper’s crucial saves.
Addressing the difference in defensive performance between league and Champions League matches, Inzaghi attributed it to changes in personnel and opponents. He acknowledged that there were fewer warning signs in recent league matches compared to European fixtures, yet goals were still conceded.
“There are moments like this, and we need to work on them,” Inzaghi explained. “What we’re doing isn’t enough. I can say that these players have a great attitude and give everything. We leave nothing to chance because we’re paying more than we should in our area.”
When questioned about the consistent use of certain players like Bastoni, Calhanoglu, and Mkhitaryan, Inzaghi clarified that it wasn’t a targeted decision but rather a belief that they could handle three games in a week. He emphasized the team’s overall growth and the difficulty in selecting the starting lineup due to strong performances in training.
“We’re all growing, and everyone is making it difficult for me because they train well and create challenges in forming the team,” Inzaghi stated.
