In a surprising turn of events, Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo has opted to join West Ham United, leaving Juventus in the lurch. The Premier League club successfully secured Todibo’s signature with a €40 million offer, which includes a sell-on fee, after the player grew frustrated with Juventus’ prolonged negotiations.
Journalist Romeo Agresti now confirms that the Bianconeri’s move for Todibo has collapsed. Juventus had been confident in their proposal, which included a €5 million loan fee with an option to purchase for an additional €30 million. However, this offer did not include a mandatory purchase clause, which Nice and Todibo found unsatisfactory.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported late on Thursday that Nice accepted West Ham’s improved bid, and Todibo decided to move forward with the Hammers. The defender had previously stalled on joining West Ham, hoping for a deal with the Turin giants, but ultimately lost patience.
West Ham’s director, Tim Steidten, played a key role in persuading Todibo, flying to London to finalize the agreement. The inclusion of a sell-on clause in West Ham’s offer was a decisive factor in clinching the deal. A medical examination for Todibo is expected to take place in London as early as Friday.
