Will Joshua Zirkzee Make Sensational Serie A Return? Former Bologna Star Set For January Transfer

The latest Joshua Zirkzee transfer news has revealed that the former Bologna star could be heading back to Serie A in January. 

Zirkzee has seen his playing time cut drastically at current employers Manchester United. The Dutchman has only registered 74 minutes of Premier League action so far in 2025-26.

His lack of game time and struggles in front of goal have also seen him cut from the recent Netherlands squads for World Cup qualifying.

Now, the 24-year-old is reportedly keen to leave the Red Devils as soon as possible as he is “seriously frustrated” with warming the bench at Old Trafford.

A possible solution comes in the form of Italy’s elite soccer division. A number of clubs have had their ears pricked up owing to Zirkzee’s sudden availability.

Back in May, Joshua Zirkzee celebrated Bologna’s Coppa Italia win after the Rossoblu beat Milan 1-0. The victory in Rome clearly brought back fond memories for Zirkzee who could be setting his sights on a third stint in Serie A.

Granted, interest in Zirkzee will be high among others around Europe but the 24-year-old knows Italy’s elite soccer division very well. It’s somewhere of which he flourished in the 2023-24 season.

Under the guidance of Thiago Motta, Zirkzee finished as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions. The 24-year-old also helped the Emilians to a UCL finish.

The likes of Brighton, West Ham and PSV are all reportedly interested. However, the chance to move back to Italy is one that will surely excite and tempt the Dutch forward.

What Serie A Sides Could Sign Joshua Zirkzee?

Various outlets have already reported that a cluster of Serie A teams are interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee. Those in question include AC Milan, Como and Juventus.

Although Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia is already on Cesc Fabregas’ radar, Zirkzee’s Serie A experience makes him a more attractive solution in attack.

Whereas Milan and Juve are concerned, the duo have plenty of center forwards on their books but the possibility to lure Zirkzee back to Italy is one that must be considered.

Former club Bologna could also consider making a move. Simply owing to the success he achieved in 2023-24 but head coach Vincenzo Italiano has a fairly settled front line.

How Much Would Joshua Zirkzee Cost In January?

After falling down the pecking order at Manchester United, Joshua Zirkzee would likely depart Old Trafford on an initial loan transfer. If that were the case, an obligation or option to buy at the end of the season could be inserted into any potential deal.

Zirkzee has a value of €30million on TransferMarkt. His current deal in Manchester still has four years to run. Furthermore, United would want to recoup most of the €42.5m they acquired him for in 2024.

With that in mind, a permanent fee of approximately €35m should be enough to sign the Dutchman. That would be more than affordable for the trio of Serie A clubs who are interested in him.

Especially if a temporary deal was navigated in January for a small fee. If that were the case, Zirkzee would surely flourish in Italy once more and increase his 2026 World Cup chances.
