Juventus Club World Cup Fixtures, Grouping, Venues and New Competition Format Explained

Start

With less than a month to go until FIFA’s brand-new intercontinental club tournament kicks off in the USA, we preview the full list of Juventus Club World Cup fixtures, and explain a little bit about how the new format will play out.

Why is Juventus in the Club World Cup?

Despite Juventus largely dropping out of the running for the Serie A title over the past five seasons, they will be one of two Italian teams — alongside Champions League finalists Inter Milan — to feature at FIFA’s new Club World Cup format.

Thanks in no small part to their consistent UEFA ranking, the Old Lady have qualified for the tournament having reached the last-16 of the Champions League on two occasions during the four-year qualifying period (2020-2024).

New Club World Cup Format Explained

In a bid to raise the profile of the Club World Cup and expand the number of participants, FIFA have introduced a large-scale overhaul to its typical format.

Designed to fill the gap in off-seasons where there is no World Cup or continental tournaments, the new format features 32 teams from across the globe, each split into eight groups of four.

Across the round robin format, there will be a total of six matches in each group. The teams who finish in the top two spots in each group progress to the round of 16.

From that point onwards, it transforms into a straightforward knockout tournament, with the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and, of course, the final. There will be no third-place playoff.

When Does the Club World Cup Start?

The first match of the tournament kicks off on June 14 at 20:00 EST, with Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly going up against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

The final takes place in East Rutherford at the home of the Giant and the Jets, with the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey staging the tournament’s curtain call on July 13, at 14:00 EST.

  • Group Stage: June 14 – June 26
  • Round of 16: June 28 – July 1
  • Quarter-Finals: July 4 & 5
  • Semi-Finals: July 8 & 9
  • Final: July 13

What is the Prize Money for the 2025 Club World Cup?

The total Club World Cup prize money pool has been revealed, with an eye-watering $1bn to be shared between the 32 participants.

$525m of that figure will be reserved for participation fees, which are dependent on sporting and commercial criteria. The rest of the sum ($475m), is shared based on sporting performance at the tournament.

Juventus will be vying to become the beneficiaries of a handsome $125m financial boost, which is awarded to the eventual victors of the new format.

Given Juventus’ revenue has dropped by $137m (25%) in the past five years, their participation in this tournament comes with a huge opportunity to begin clawing back their financial security.
