Juventus are considering a loan move for Portuguese defender Tiago Djaló as part of their efforts to rejuvenate the player’s career. The former Lille center-back, who joined the Bianconeri in January, has struggled to make an impact due to a lengthy injury layoff.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report (via TMW) that with Juventus reportedly close to signing Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice as a new partner for Bremer in central defense, Djaló’s opportunities for playing time appear limited. This situation has prompted the club to revisit the idea of loaning out the 23-year-old for the upcoming season.
The primary goal of this potential loan move is to provide Djaló with regular playing time, allowing him to regain match fitness and form. Juventus views this as a strategic move, with the intention of having him return to the club in a stronger position to contribute in the future.
Djaló’s recent struggles stem from a severe knee injury suffered on March 4, 2023, when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament. Since that incident, which occurred 515 days ago, the defender has only managed to play 16 minutes of competitive football, coming as a substitute in Juventus’ final Serie A match against Monza last season.
The club’s management is currently evaluating the situation, but with new coach Thiago Motta’s plans for the team, it seems there may not be sufficient space for Djaló in the immediate future. A loan move is therefore being considered as the most functional solution to aid his recovery and development.
