Exor, the holding company of the Agnelli family who have been Juventus’ controlling owners for 102 years, have rejected an approach from cryptocurrency giants Tether.

In a video posted on the club’s website, Exor chief executive John Elkann categorically ruled out a change of ownership; “Juventus, our history and our values are not for sale.”

The $1.2 billion bid is one of the largest sport acquisition attempts from the crypto sphere, which has seen an influx of stablecoin heavyweights infiltrating Europe’s biggest clubs and leagues in recent years.

Juventus Tether Bid Rejected By Exor

Exor has reiterated its deep ties to Juventus after this latest takeover bid, which almost certainly tested their resolve given the size of the offer and the premium attached to it.

The stablecoin issuer announced last Friday that it submitted an all-cash proposal to takeover Exor’s controlling stake, which stands at little over 65 percent.

It also came with the intention to launch a bid for the remaining shares at the same price, if the proposal was given the green light.

Tether will continue to be the club’s second-largest shareholder after increasing their initial stake to 10.7 percent in June.

It remains the only instance of a European soccer club listing a crypto company among their most valuable shareholders.

Will Tether Ever Buy Juventus From Exor?

Tether’s incremental steps to exert control at Juventus have been quiet, but deliberate.

Since acquiring an initial 8.2 percent back in February 2025, Tether have not only increased their stake to be the club’s second-largest shareholder, but they also managed to install a board member – Francesco Garino – who was nominated by the company in November.

Another attempt to increase their numbers on the board proved unsuccessful, however, after the company’s deputy investment chief, Zachary Lyons, was rejected by shareholders.

The manner in which Tether has conducted its business since staking its claim at Juventus has been clear; this is a long-term investment strategy, rather than a transient play.

Tether also backed up its substantial bid with a promise to inject a further $1 billion in additional capital to ensure the club remains competitive on all fronts, from transfers to new state-of-the-art facilities.

It does, however, appear unlikely that Tether will be successful in their attempts to become Juve’s controlling owners.

Even in the face of significant capital and a promise of additional extras, the Agenlli family and its holding company are staying true to their roots.

Elkann’s comments show a commitment to the club’s identity and history, for which the Agnelli family have been central to for over 100 years.

How Tether’s bid will affect the relationship between the two parties going forward remains to be seen, but it is clear that the crypto company are putting pressure on Exor, at a time where Juventus’ performances are some way off the club’s expectations.
